Oswego History and Community Information
Oswego Illinois has a rich history going back to its founding in 1833 at a spot where Waubonsee Creek enters the Fox River and a limestone shelf provided a natural ford for early travelers from Chicago to parts west. The city was originally named Hudson but was later renamed Oswego – a Mohawk Indian word meaning “mouth of the stream”. In the 1950′s two large companies set up headquarters in the community and kicked off a population boom that continues today. Oswego remains one of the fastest-growing areas in northern Illinois but is often overlooked due to its proximity to larger neighboring cities of Aurora and Naperville. Real estate in Oswego includes many different types of homes including both new and turn-of-the-century, townhomes and condos all the way up to large estates. If you are interested in learning more about the history and growth of this beautiful city, please visit my page devoted to Oswego History and Community.
